This week in Reception, we began learning about Racial Justice in an age-appropriate and meaningful way. We introduced the children to Sister Thea Bowman, explaining that she was a teacher and singer who helped people understand the importance of love, fairness and celebrating everyone’s differences.
We listened to hymns that Sister Thea loved and talked about how music can bring people together. The children shared their thoughts beautifully, noticing how the songs made them feel happy, calm and included. They then drew thoughtful pictures of Sister Thea, thinking carefully about her smile and joyful spirit.
As a class, we discussed what kindness looks like in our everyday lives. The children suggested sharing toys, helping friends if they fall over, using kind words and making sure everyone is included when they play
We are so proud of the children for engaging so thoughtfully with this learning and for thinking about how they can help make our world a kinder and fairer place. 🌍✨
