We have been studying the lifecycle of chickens this week, linking our learning to having the live chicks in school. We have loved having the chicks in class and we have also enjoyed doing some observational painting, using water colours. This linked to a whole school Art project, which we were encouraged to explore warm and cold colours. In Reception, we thought that the chicks were ‘warm’ colours, because they were the same colour as ‘the desert’, ‘the sand’, ‘a field of hay’ and ‘the beach on a sunny day’; just some of the responses from the children in class. We decided that the colours of the chicks were ‘warm’ as they are yellow, orange and brown.
We have also started our new book, The Odd Egg. Some of the children already know the story, but do look out for your child’s alternative egg designs and alternative endings to the story, next week.
In Maths, we have been making and recognising doubles and testing each other to complete challenges in class.
In RE we have started a new topic, Reconciliation. For the children in Reception, we discussed the importance of ‘being sorry’ and understanding what is necessary to be a good friend. We have linked this with our PSHE and have been enjoying circle times to discuss what are ‘kind words’ and ‘kind actions’.
