Breaking News and Shadow Puppets: A Busy Week in RE and Science!

This week, we began our new RE topic, "Dialogue and Encounter," by looking at Exodus 12 to explore how the Israelites escaped slavery in Ancient Egypt. By studying this Bible passage, we started to understand the deeper context of the Last Supper as a Passover meal, as well as the symbolism behind the sacrificial "Lamb of God."
To bring the story to life, we transformed our classroom into a live TV news studio! The children had fantastic fun role-playing as Hebrews hastily packing to flee captivity, while our student journalists interviewed them for the "Breaking News Channel."
Investigating Light in Science
The excitement continued in science, where the children loved making and testing shadow puppets. Using a rabbit template, we crafted puppets out of various materials: black card, paper, tissue paper, and plastic.
Our objective was to find out which material created the best shadow. Through our hands-on test, we discovered that:
- Black card made the best shadow puppet because it is opaque.
- Plastic made the worst shadow puppet because it is transparent.
- Paper landed somewhere in the middle, as it is translucent.
