Building Strong Foundations: Faith, Friendship, and Sorting in Reception!

It has been another wonderful, busy week in Reception as our little learners explored the power of strong foundations—both in faith and in their daily learning.

This week, we gathered to share a special story about Jesus and his disciple, Simon. The children learned that Jesus gave Simon a brand-new name: Peter, which means 'Rock'. We talked about how Peter was given a big, strong job—to be the very first leader of the Church (the first Pope) and to spread love all around the world.

To bring this story to life, the children took part some fantastic hands-on activities:

  • Everyone selected and decorated their very own 'rock' to keep as a personal prayer stone.

  • We drew self-portraits inside church drawings to show that the Church is made of people who care for one another, and we built brilliant churches in the construction area.

  • At the writing table, the children used their phonics skills to independently sound out and write their own lovely prayers.

We also stepped into the world of Computing by introducing the concept of sorting! After looking at a messy pile of resources, the children used amazing critical thinking skills to sort items into hoops or on whiteboards. They successfully grouped Multilink cubes by colour, 2D shapes by their and toy animals by type or colour.

We are so proud of their hard work and teamwork this week!
