Let's set sail in Nursery
LC NURSERY 19.6.26
What a wonderful, busy week we have had here at the nursery! Our days have been packed with adventure, creativity, and lots of active learning, starting on Tuesday afternoon when we took part in an exciting Peter Pan drama workshop. The children fully immersed themselves in Neverland, practising swimming on the spot, running in slow motion, pulling their best silly faces, and bravely walking the plank. They followed a secret treasure map to hunt down Captain Hook, playing a brilliant game where they had to freeze like statues whenever he entered the room and throw a dance party the moment he left. They even successfully stole Captain Hook's chocolate muffins, showing fantastic listening skills and following every instruction perfectly.
Our sea adventures continued into our literacy and role-play sessions as we read the book Clean Up!,which teaches us how plastic pollutes the sea and why it is so important to recycle and tidy away litter responsibly. The nursery children transformed into a dedicated "Clean Up Crew" in our role-play environment, setting sail in our classroom ship to clear rubbish from the ocean and save the sea creatures. We practiced rescuing animals that had been harmed by plastic, using word cards to try and write down their names, and we even got crafty by using old plant pots and carrier bags to create our own "recycled" jellyfish.
In phonics, we have been marching along and singing The Grand Old Duke of York, while also focusing on the 't' sound. The children became excellent sound detectives, exploring the classroom to find and name objects starting with 't' to help embed their learning. Finally, in maths, we have been exploring positional language to learn how to describe where things are. We danced the Hokey Cokey to practice moving our bodies in and out, and we used beach resources and sea creature boxes for a hands-on beanbag activity, where each child used their beanbag to model being a sea creature and demonstrate positions like in, on, under, and next to. We also won the trophy for singing assembly this week which was very exciting!!!
To round off our amazing week, we also had a fantastic time celebrating International Day! The children looked wonderful dressed up for the occasion, and we celebrated in class with different activities and a visit from Ines and her Mum who taught us all about Spain and we also tried the flamenco dance. Nursery enjoyed our special assembly where we got to show of our outfits in a parade.
