Orienteering Skills in Year 5 PE
This week in PE, Year 5 have been stepping into the exciting world of orienteering!
The children have been exploring the foundational concepts of map-making by learning how simple symbols can be used to represent real-world objects.
Working in teams, the children took part in fast-paced relay races where each runner had to sprint out to collect a specific piece of PE equipment (such as cones, beanbags, skipping ropes, and tennis balls) and carefully place it into a hula hoop base to build a creative 'face'.
This required not only speed and creativity but also excellent communication, as teams had to discuss their design strategies and ensure every facial feature was perfectly placed.
It was a fun, high-energy lesson that combined physical activity with teamwork, creativity and communication. Well done, Year 5!
