Summer, Sunflowers and St Peter

We have had another busy week in Nursery! This week, we started learning about the artist Vincent Van Gogh. We discovered that he was from the Netherlands, that his favourite colour was yellow, and that he loved painting sunflowers. We looked carefully at one of his sunflower paintings and identified the different parts of the flower, including the stem, petals and seeds. Today, we began creating our own masterpieces inspired by Van Gogh. Look out for them over the next few weeks!

As part of our Understanding the World learning, we have also been exploring the season of summer. We talked about the changes we notice in the weather and discussed some of the things we enjoy doing when it is sunny, such as playing outside, having picnics and staying safe in the sun. We also learned about the importance of bees and how they help flowers and plants to grow by pollinating them. The children enjoyed sharing their ideas and learning about how we can help look after bees.

In RE, we explored the story of Peter walking on water. We talked about how Jesus asked Peter to trust Him, even when he felt scared. We discussed how following Jesus can sometimes feel difficult or frightening, but learned that Jesus never leaves His friends when they need help. The children created lovely pictures of St Peter and Jesus in the boat.

In phonics, we have been recapping the sound ‘a’ and recognising different words that begin with this sound. In maths, we have been learning about the number 8, exploring different ways to represent it using a range of resources. The children enjoyed practising writing the number 8, counting out 8 objects and using Numicon to develop their subitising skills.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend! The thumbnail has been assigned to the news item, and for convenience also added to the body here:
