Year 2 End-of-Term Highlights: Creativity, Nature, and Inclusion!

22.05.26 Year 2

What an incredible end to the term we have had in Year 2! The children have worked exceptionally hard, explored the great outdoors, and let their creativity shine. Here is a look at what we have been up to over the last few weeks.

📝 Captivating Writing: Diary Entries

Our young authors have blown us all away with their incredible writing talents this term. Inspired by the beautiful book Julián Is a Mermaid, the children took on the role of Julián to write their own deeply imaginative diary entries.

We are incredibly proud of how they challenged themselves to use:

  • First-person perspective ("I felt...") to truly step into the character's shoes.

  • Past tense to accurately recount the day's events.

  • Time conjunctions (such as afterwards, next, and soon) to guide the reader.

  • Expanded noun phrases to add vivid color and detail to their descriptions.

The final pieces of work are absolutely stunning—well done, Year 2!

🎸 A Special Visit from Electric Umbrella!

We were absolutely thrilled to welcome some very special guests to our school this term: the amazing team from Electric Umbrella! They hosted an energetic, interactive workshop that had the entire year group beaming from ear to ear. Through the power of music, our visitors challenged perceptions and celebrated a wonderful message of inclusion. The children loved singing, dancing, and making music together—it was an unforgettable experience that left everyone feeling inspired and uplifted.

🌿 Celebrating "Green Day"

We swapped the classroom for the great outdoors to celebrate our school's Green Day, and what a jam-packed day of adventure it was! The children fully immersed themselves in nature and eco-friendly crafting. Some of our favorite highlights included:

  • Pond Dipping & Ant Hikes: Discovering the tiny creatures that share our world.

  • Water Construction: Working as a team to engineer creative waterways.

  • Bird Feeders & "Socktopuses": Crafting treats for our local wildlife and recycling old socks into brilliant new toy octopuses!

To wrap up this special day, the entire school gathered together. It was truly moving to end our celebrations united in beautiful song and prayer, reflecting on the importance of caring for our planet.

🎨 Mixed-Media Landscapes

In art, Year 2 has been exploring the wonderful world of texture. The children enjoyed experimenting with mixed media, combining collage techniques with various textured materials to design their own unique landscapes. From rough hills to smooth skies, the layering and creativity on display were fantastic.

A Note from the Year 2 Team: > Thank you to all of our wonderful students for their enthusiasm, and to our parents for their continued support. We hope you all have a wonderful, restful break!
