Year 2 visit our Parish Church
11.06.26 Year 2
A Special Visit to St Alban & St Stephen ⛪
On Monday, 1st June, we took a wonderful trip to our parish church, St Alban & St Stephen. The purpose of the visit was to help us familiarise ourselves with the church's most important features.
We explored the:
-
Baptismal font
-
The Altar
-
Stations of the Cross
-
The Paschal candle
-
...and where the priest sits!
Fr Michael was fantastic—he helped us understand these sacred objects by comparing them to items we might find in our own homes. This meaningful visit was the perfect way to help us prepare for our upcoming whole-school Mass.
Classroom Update: Fractions, Stories, and Local Empires 📚
Back in the classroom, our minds have been working overtime!
-
Maths: We have been getting to grips with the tricky world of equivalent fractions.
-
English: We have launched a brand-new unit centered around the powerful and moving book, My Name is Not Refugee.
-
History: We have started an exciting local history unit on "The Orchid King". We are learning all about Henry Frederick Conrad Sander, a German-born horticulturist who built a massive, global orchid empire right here in St Albans!
Dates for the Diary & Upcoming Adventures 📅
We have a packed calendar of events to look forward to over the next few weeks:
-
Tuesday 16th June – Peter Pan’s Neverland Adventure (Drama4All Workshop): An interactive drama experience. Pupils will be transported to Neverland to help Peter Pan recover stolen treasure from Captain Hook. Through role-play, movement, and storytelling, our young pirates and mermaids will build confidence and teamwork skills through active learning.
- Tuesday 19th June – International Day: We can't wait for a day celebrating different cultures and global communities through fun activities.
-
Tuesday 22nd June – Local History Walk: We will be putting on our walking shoes to explore the historical roots of our local area first-hand.
