Racial Justice, Equality and Diversity

At St Alban & St Stephen, we are guided by the Gospel message and the belief that every person is made in the image and likeness of God. We are committed to promoting equality, celebrating diversity, and ensuring that all members of our school community are treated with dignity, respect and fairness so that they can flourish. The book All Are Welcome by Alexandra Penfold has inspired our approach to Racial Justice, Equality, and Diversity (RJED) with its message that everyone is welcome and everyone is valued. It promotes inclusion and encourages every member of our school community to challenge discrimination and prejudice.

We're part of a community.

Our strength is our diversity.

A shelter from adversity.

All are welcome here.

'All are Welcome'- Alexandra Penfold

Our Equality Information and Objectives Statement sets out our aims:

Equality Information and Objectives

In accordance with the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duty, we have due regard to the need to eliminate discrimination, advance equality of opportunity, and foster good relationships between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not. Equality is embedded across our policies, curriculum and practice, ensuring that pupils are supported to achieve well and feel safe, included and valued.

Our school actively promotes British Values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. These values underpin our behaviour expectations, curriculum delivery and wider personal development provision, helping pupils to become responsible, respectful and informed citizens.

Events like Black History Week in October, Anti-Bullying Week in November, Racial Justice Sunday in February, Refugee Awareness Week in June and International Day in June are celebrations of our diverse and inclusive school community and a reminder that all are welcome and all belong.

Our approach to RJED is further informed by the Westminster Diocese Racial Justice, Equality and Diversity Strategy.
