As we prepare for the celebration of the birth of Christ during this time of Advent, Year 3 have been studying the role of angels as messengers of God in the Gospel of Luke. In Luke 1:26-38 the Angel Gabriel announces the joyful tidings of the Annunciation when Mary first knew she would give birth to Jesus. An angel also gave Elizabeth the news of the forthcoming birth of John. Furthermore, a heavenly host of angels sang while shepherds tended their flocks on the night of Jesus’ birth. In our R.E. lessons this week we performed role plays to deepen our knowledge of the role that angels played in announcing the good news of the coming of the Christ. It also allowed us to practise our oracy skills of speaking and listening. Children took on the roles of Mary and Gabriel and delivered speeches as the Angel Gabriel announcing the coming of Christ to Mary, Elizabeth and the shepherds.
