This week we began our new unit in R.E. called ‘Galilee to Jerusalem’. During one of our lessons, we performed role plays in which the children played the Magi visiting King Herod to announce the good news of the birth of the Saviour, Jesus Christ. We read Mathew 2: 1-13 detailing their arrival in Jerusalem asking for the “king of the Jews.” We learned that Herod was greatly troubled by this news and he asked the Magi to find the child and report back him so he could worship the Saviour too. However, they were warned in a dream not to return to him because of his intention to get rid of the infant Saviour. Our work helped us to understand the importance of Epiphany and the symbolism of the gifts brought by the Magi of Frankincense to denote Jesus’ holiness, Myrrh which was of symbol of his role as Saviour and gold which signified his importance as a heavenly King.
