What a busy and exciting week it has been in Acorns Class! The children have been full of enthusiasm as we explored numbers, computing, nature, stories, and our RE learning. It has been lovely to see so much curiosity, teamwork, and joy throughout the week.
Today we have been celebrating NSPCC Number Day, and the children looked fantastic dressed in outfits full of different numbers, shapes, and patterns. We talked about recognising numbers in our everyday world and why numbers are important. As part of our maths learning, the children practised ordering and matching numbers from 1 to 10 through a range of fun, hands-on activities. One of our favourite tasks was creating a penguin number line, where the children worked together carefully adding the correct number of penguins to our number line watching the amount go up each time. This activity helped develop number recognition, counting skills, and fine motor control—and the children were very proud of their finished work we achieved as a team!
In computing, the children were introduced to the idea of directions, learning about forwards, backwards, left, and right. We then used this knowledge to begin coding with Beebots. The children took turns giving simple instructions to help the Beebots move in the correct direction. This was a fantastic way to develop early problem-solving skills, listening, and teamwork, and there was lots of excitement as the Beebots travelled around the classroom!
We also became little gardeners this week as we planted seeds and learned about what a flower needs to grow. We talked about soil, water, sunlight, and care, and the children helped plant and water the seeds carefully. This linked beautifully with our English learning, where we focused on the story Somewhere Someday. The children shared thoughtful ideas about growth, change, and looking after our environment, using the story to support their understanding and language development.
In RE, we spent time reflecting on the message that Jesus cares for us and how we can care for one another. To celebrate this, the children took part in fun parachute games, working together and enjoying shared laughter. These activities helped reinforce ideas of trust, care, and community while also supporting physical development and cooperation.
Overall, it has been a wonderful week filled with learning, creativity, and play. The children have shown fantastic engagement across all areas and should be very proud of themselves. We look forward to another exciting week ahead in Nursery!
