SSAS Boys’ Football Team vs Bowmans Green
Reported by Mr Byrne

In truly arctic conditions, the team made the midweek journey to London Colney on a frosty Wednesday evening. Despite the cold, SSAS made a fantastic start, with N opening the scoring early on, showcasing both his physical strength and technical ability. SSAS dominated possession throughout the first half, playing some excellent football for the brave—if freezing—parents watching from the sidelines. Their quality was rewarded when R calmly slotted home the second goal. Moments before half-time, it looked as though we had added a third, only for the referee to pull play back for an earlier throw-in.
The opposition came out with renewed energy in the second half and pulled a goal back early on. Chasing an equaliser, they pushed forward aggressively, leaving gaps in their defence. Our team created several clear chances on the counter, and if not for some impressive goalkeeping from the opposition, they could easily have added two or three more.
Eventually, the hosts’ persistence paid off, and they found an equaliser with just three minutes left on the clock. Many teams might have settled for a draw—but not the boys from SSAS. Showing tremendous grit and determination, they pushed forward once more, and N struck again in the dying seconds to secure a dramatic and well-deserved victory.
A huge well done to all the players for their effort and character, and a big thank-you to the parents for their loyal support on such a bitterly cold evening.

SSAS Boys’ Football Team vs St Peter’s
Reported by Mr Byrne

Last Wednesday evening, we hosted our first home fixture of the season against St Peter’s School. The opening half was end-to-end, with both teams creating chances. We eventually broke the deadlock when F fired a low shot into the bottom corner, much to the delight of the home supporters. Shortly before half-time, C connected with a well-placed cross to double our advantage and give us a 2–0 lead at the break.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with the St Peter’s goalkeeper putting in an impressive performance. The visitors managed to pull a goal back, increasing the pressure, but our boys responded brilliantly. S and F struck in quick succession to restore our cushion. Near full-time, C added our fifth goal, and although St Peter’s scored a stunning effort straight from the restart, it was too late to change the outcome.
A huge well done to all the boys for their hard work and determination, and a big thank you to all families for their continued support.
