This week in Year 6, we continued our Science topic of Classification by survey the plant life of our school. We inspected the various trees and bushes on our upper site, photographing them and identifying their different feature. Once we finished our field work, we returned to our classrooms to create classification keys to help others identify the plant life around our school grounds.
We also put the finishing touches on our collaborative artwork marking the Jubilee Year. The theme was Hope in Scripture and our focus was on John 1: 1-5:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
We created flames of light shining in the darkness, symbolising the ever present light of God. It will serve as a reminder to us this term that even when times are difficult, God’s light is always somewhere to be found.
Elsewhere this week:
- In English we have concluded the story of Hermelin and written in role as him, exploring his changing emotions as the story unfolds.
- We have reviewed how we multiply by multiples of 10, 100 and 1,000 in Maths and applied this to problems involving Measure.
- In RE, We have continued our work on the second Creation story, focusing on God’s creation of Adam and Eve. We explored why God created Adam from the dust of the Earth and what made he and Eve different from God’s other creations.
- We began preparation for our Year 6 Isle of Wight Assembly next Friday (10th October).
