Year 1 had an amazing day, immersing ourselves in poetry on National Poetry Day, Thursday 2nd October.
We warmed up with singing Nursery Rhymes and then our Teachers read us lots of poems linked to PLAY.
We noticed that lots of poems had rhyming words at the end off the sentence, or couplet.
We tried to copy this skill when creating our own poem about PLAY. We wrote a collaborative acrostic poem in each class.
During our English activities, we read further poems together.
We also spotted rhyming words and matched them and then wrote the words on whiteboards and used magnetic letters.
At the end of the day we listened to some very funny poems written by Michael Rosen, he made us laugh!
Do try to read a poem or nursery rhyme together with your families this weekend or maybe you could take a poetry book out from your Public Library.
Lastly, please remember the Autumn Fayre is tomorrow at SSAS, between 1-4pm. Come along to support our great school, have fun and meet with your friends and friend’s parents.
