We have had a great start to the year in Year 6 this week!
This week in Maths we have been reviewing our learning on Place Value, working with numbers of up to 8-digits. The children have enjoyed playing guessing games using their learning to ask relevant questions about the placement and magnitude of digits.
In Science, we started our first topic of classification by learning about classification keys using liquorice allsorts. The children had to sort the sweets into different groups based on colour shape and number of layers in order to find the best way to make their key. They were then challenged to create a key using classroom objects, this time focused on more scientific categories such as ther properties of the materials.
Elsewhere this week:
- We have used been reading Hermelin in English, using modal verbs and both direct and reported speech in our writing.
- We have explored Hope in Scripture as part of our Jubilee Year celebrations, using John 1:5 as inspiration for some collective artwork.
- We have learned about the key natural features of Coastlines in Geography, identifying them and subsequently sketching them in our Art lesson.
