What a wonderful week we’ve had in Reception! The children have been busy exploring, creating and learning through a range of exciting activities.
In Maths, we have been matching numerals to quantities. The children had a fantastic time counting out the correct number of googly eyes to put on their aliens! This hands-on activity really helped them practise careful counting and number recognition, and the finished aliens looked brilliant.
In English, we have been enjoying the story Astro Girl. Inspired by the book, the children thought about what they would take with them on a trip to space. They drew pictures of the items they would pack in their suitcase and then labelled them using their phonics knowledge. We were very impressed with their imaginative ideas, from space snacks to special teddies!
In RE, we learned about the journey to Bethlehem and talked about the long, tiring trip that Mary, Joseph and the donkey took as they travelled from Nazareth to Bethlehem for the census. The children then created their own houses for Bethlehem, carefully designing and decorating them. Our classroom displays look absolutely amazing, full of creativity and thought.
We listened to a Bible passage as well as the story Room for a Little One, and we sang Away in a Manger together. The children then used different materials to make their own stables and mangers for baby Jesus. They showed such care and creativity as they built their models.
Thank you for all your support this week. We hope you enjoy the three day weekend, and we look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday, ready for more learning and fun!
