This week theĀ childrenĀ in YearĀ 3 held collective worship sessions in class. In 3B the act of worship was based on John 20:19 -31 where Jesus appears to doubting Thomas. In 3T theĀ act of worship was based on Acts 2: 1-4 where the Holy Spirit comes to the disciples after theĀ Ascension of Jesus.
In the Gospel , Thomas refused to believe until he saw Jesus in person. Jesus told him that thoseĀ who do not see, but still believe, are blessed. This story is an importantĀ reminder for us to have faith and trust in God, even when times areĀ uncertain.
At Pentecost, Christians remember how the Holy Spirit brought newĀ energyĀ and powers to the disciples of Jesus, giving them the capacity andĀ faith to spread the Gospel throughout the world.Ā Often theĀ symbols of wind and fire are used to describe the transforming effect of theĀ Holy Spirit on the disciples and theĀ children in 3T used theseĀ symbols to write eyewitness accounts of whatĀ it must have been like for theĀ disciples to experience this greatĀ power from God.
