Class Blog – Week Beginning 8th September 2025
We have just completed our first full week back, and I am incredibly impressed with how well the children have settled into the new school year. They have approached their learning with enthusiasm and focus – they should all feel very proud of themselves.
English
This week, we have been learning to use conjunctions such as and, but, or, and because to extend our sentences. The children also explored the use of adjectives, describing objects around the classroom as well as characters and items linked to Paddington. They demonstrated creativity and growing confidence in developing descriptive language.
Mathematics
Our focus in maths has been on number bonds to 20 and below. We have practised doubling numbers and tackled missing number problems, such as:
4 + 9 = 5 + ? + 2
These activities are designed to strengthen mental arithmetic, particularly the ability to quickly add and subtract within 20 – a key foundation for future mathematical learning.
Art
In our art sessions, the children explored a range of materials to help them draw shapes and images linked to Paddington. We discussed how to break down complex images into simpler parts, using basic shapes like circles, rectangles, and triangles to guide their drawings.
Religious Education
This week in R.E., we began exploring the story of Noah. The children worked on sequencing the key events in the story, and we look forward to delving deeper into its meaning and themes over the coming weeks.
Physical Education
In P.E., the children developed their agility through activities including dodgeball. They worked on quick changes of direction, dodging, and moving with control and speed. It was fantastic to see their energy and teamwork on full display.
Home Learning
The homework grid has now been shared with the children. Times Tables Rock Stars login information has also been distributed. For those who brought in their reading records, the login has been placed inside. Others received theirs on a separate slip of paper.
Thank you for your continued support at home – it makes a real difference in helping the children feel confident and successful in their learning.
