This week in Year 3, we had a very important lesson all about allergies – something we take very seriously here at our no-nut school.
The children explored what it means to have an allergy, with a particular focus on nut allergies and the serious condition known as anaphylaxis. We discussed how to recognise the signs of an allergic reaction, including swelling, difficulty breathing, and dizziness, and most importantly, what to do if a friend shows these symptoms.
Together, we explored everyday situations where they might come across someone with an allergy—whether at school, a birthday party, or even a sleepover. We discussed how important it is never to share food, even with friends, as we can’t always be sure what ingredients are in it.
It was an important lesson in helping us keep our school a safe and inclusive environment for everyone, and we are very proud of the maturity and empathy Year 3 showed throughout. Well done, Year 3!
