In this week’s Science lesson, we became real-life chemists as we discovered how to turn everyday ingredients—hot milk and white vinegar—into plastic right before our eyes!
First, we carefully heated the milk, then added a few tablespoons of vinegar and gave it a good stir. Almost instantly, we saw an amazing change—the milk began to separate into curds and whey. After straining the mixture, we were left with a strange, squishy substance that felt just like plastic!
This fascinating reaction is called a chemical change, and the material we created is known as casein plastic. It was an exciting, hands-on way to explore how science can transform ordinary items into something completely new.
