The children had a fantastic NSPCC Number Day celebration today. They came to school wearing clothes featuring numbers or patterns and took part in a range of fun, maths-based activities.
We explored tangrams, puzzling over how to arrange the seven shapes to create animals such as foxes and horses etc, before challenging ourselves to fit them back into a square. Some children also designed their own board games, adapting familiar games like Snakes and Ladders or inventing completely new games with rules they devised themselves. The children had great fun being creative and working collaboratively.
Later in the day, we went outside to take part in the RSPB Great Garden Birdwatch around the school grounds led by Ms Sophia. We spotted a variety of native birds, including wrens, woodpigeons and magpies, and tallied our sightings as part of the nationwide birdwatch.
We also used our mathematical knowledge to create a range of 2D shapes using our bodies.
Overall, the children had a lovely day, enjoying numeracy through tangram challenges and ending the day by counting and identifying native birds.
