In Reception, we’ve been busy exploring lots of exciting topics! In Maths, we’ve been comparing lengths, thicknesses, and weights using natural resources like sticks and stones. We even made our own playdough snakes and compared their sizes, some were long and thin, others short and thick!
In RE, we’ve been learning all about baptism. We talked about our own baptism’s and those of our friends, then acted out a baptism through role play. We also listened to the story of Jesus’ baptism and made beautiful handprint doves to represent the Holy Spirit and becoming part of God’s family.
In Science, we’ve been learning about our amazing bodies! We worked together to draw around one another and then matched body part labels to the drawings.
Our young artists have been taking their creativity outdoors as we explored the fascinating world of Andy Goldsworthy, a British artist known for his beautiful sculptures made entirely from natural materials. The children were inspired by Goldsworthy’s work to create their own radial art and insect designs using resources found in our outdoor area, including leaves, twigs, stones, petals, conkers and pinecones. They worked carefully to arrange their materials into beautiful patterns and imaginative insect shapes, developing both their artistic skills and appreciation for the natural world. Through this activity, the children have also been learning about shapes, patterns, and symmetry, all while enjoying hands on exploration in nature. It has been a wonderful opportunity for them to express their creativity, work collaboratively, and connect with the environment around them.
It’s been a week full of hands-on learning and teamwork!
Well done, Reception!
