This week in Science, Year 3 have been learning all about sedimentary rocks and how they are formed over time through layers of sediment building up and compacting.
To help us understand this process, we created our very own “sedimentary sandwich jars.” Each group carefully built up layers using sand, soil, pebbles, shredded paper to represent bones and fossils, and grass and plants.
We could clearly see how different materials settle in layers – just like in nature! The children loved seeing their miniature rock formations come to life.
