2025 is our Jubilee Year, with the theme ‘Pilgrims of Hope’. Pope Francis set this theme and said that he wanted it to be a year where we live out our mission to spread hope across the world.
Light is a common symbol of hope. Throughout the Jubilee Year, a torch of hope has been travelling to Catholic schools throughout Hertfordshire. This pilgrimage has been organised by All Saints Catholic Academy Trust (ASCAT).
Today, our Year 5 Pupil Chaplaincy Team visited St John Fisher Catholic Primary School to ceremonially receive the torch in a handover assembly. We listened to Scripture readings and prayers, and then sang ‘Shine, Jesus, Shine’ together. It was a wonderful occasion which summed up some of our SSAS school values of Faith, Friendship and Unity. Thank you to St John Fisher for such a lovely celebration.
Next week, we will be carrying the torch on a short pilgrimage to Ss Alban & Stephen Parish Church, to celebrate our special St Alban’s Mass. The torch will be with us until July 7th, when it will continue on its journey from SSAS to St Bernadette’s Catholic Primary School.
You may wish to pray this special Jubilee prayer at home:
God, our loving Father,
In this Jubilee year,
you remind us of our call to love creation.
Help us to work together
to replant, repair, and renew.
Guide us on our journey as pilgrims of hope.
Jesus, our light,
In this Jubilee year,
you remind us of our call to love our neighbours
and to set free those who suffer.
Help us to treat everyone with dignity;
to be fair, forgiving and kind.
Guide us on our journey as pilgrims of hope.
Holy Spirit, our inspiration,
In this Jubilee year, you remind us of our call to grow in faith and love.
Help us to hear you in scripture, to see Jesus in others,
and to be united as God’s global family.
Guide us on our journey as pilgrims of hope.
Amen
