Happy New Year to all our Year 2 families! I hope you had a lovely break and enjoyed some special time together. It has been wonderful welcoming the children back to school this week, and we are all really looking forward to the exciting learning and progress that lies ahead this year.
The children have settled back into routines brilliantly and have thrown themselves into their learning with enthusiasm. In maths, we have been busy working with money, particularly focusing on recognising coins and notes and finding the correct change. The children have shown great resilience and problem-solving skills, and it has been lovely to see their confidence growing.
In PSHE, we spent time reminding ourselves of our school Golden Rules, our values, and our class expectations. This has helped us start the term with a positive mindset and a shared understanding of how we learn and work together as a team.
We have also been getting back into using our Chromebooks, logging on successfully and enjoying a fun session on Times Tables Rock Stars – a great way to practise multiplication while having fun!
In English, we have begun our new story, Traction Man. The children have absolutely loved it, especially the opportunity to design their own superhero. Their creativity and imagination have been fantastic, and we can’t wait to build on this work over the coming weeks.
PE has certainly got our hearts pumping as we have started Drumba. It is a high-energy, rhythm-based workout that the children are thoroughly enjoying. If you haven’t heard of it before, it’s well worth looking up online – it’s great fun and a brilliant workout for adults too!
In science, we have begun learning about living things and their habitats. The children are already full of questions and curiosity, and it’s clear they are excited about the new topics we will be exploring this half term.
Overall, it has been a fantastic first week back. The children are motivated, happy, and excited about their learning, and I am really looking forward to all that we will achieve together this term. Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
