Year 1 had the great opportunity to have an African Dance workshop on Tuesday.
The children were guided in chanting, clapping and dancing along to African drumming.
You can see from the photographs that everyone had so much fun!
Also this week, Year 1 learnt about Laurie Cunningham who was an English footballer during the 1970s and 1980s who was a trailblazer as one of the first black players to play for his country and the first British player to play for Real Madrid. He moved from Leyton Orient to West Bromwich Albion and became one of three black footballers who challenged racial stereotypes and prejudices, altering public attitudes towards Black players. In 2019 a statue honouring the three players was unveiled in West Bromwich. The children learnt further interesting facts about Laurie Cunningham, including that he was a great disco dancer and he was invited to join a Ballet company, but he declined to pursue his career in football.
On Friday the children will have a celebratory assembly, sharing all our Black History learning with the school.
The Year 1 Team wish all our families a wonderful half term break. We look forward to hearing about your adventures on Monday 3rd November.
