Year 1 – Super sonic learning
We started a new book this week, linked to our Space topic. Alexis Deacon wrote Beegu who is not supposed to be on Earth and is lost. She is a friendly little creature, but the Earth People don’t seem to want a creature that looks different in their community. However, she meets some school children who are really kind and welcoming. We reflected on the feelings that she must have experienced and then created story-maps to retell the story to one another. This has supported oracy, which the school is keen to promote.

In Maths we have been solving word problems that involve the mathematical language of difference and fewer. We used multi-link cubes to visually represent the amounts and then compared them to calculate the answers.

In History we have continued to learn about the History of space exploration. This week, we studied the life and amazing achievements of Neil Armstrong. He famously said when he landed on the moon in 1969; “This is one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind”. We have continued to use the Role Play to use our imagination of space exploration and have created rockets and astronauts on paper and using the construction areas.

We hope all our families have a wonderful, relaxing weekend. We look forward to the start of Advent next week!
