This week the children had a fascinating session exploring, observing and comparing different rocks in our science lessons. The children had an assortment of rock they had never seen or heard of before and they had a great time recording their appearance and describing their characteristics and properties. Among the various types of sedimentary rocks, metamorphic and igneous were colourful and beautiful rocks such as red jasper, turquoise, calcite, amethyst and tiger’s eye. Some children even started looking around in the school grounds for different types of rock when we went for play.
Year 3 have also been putting their place value skills into practice by playing the exciting Banker’s Game! Using 9-sided dice and Base 10 equipment, the children worked in teams to collect the biggest number they could within a set time. One player acted as the banker, carefully exchanging ones, tens and hundreds as the game progressed. The children enjoyed the challenge of regrouping and recording their final numbers in different ways, all while having fun and working collaboratively.
