Week five has flown by, and what a wonderfully busy week it has been. Year 4 have embraced every challenge with enthusiasm, resilience and plenty of smiles.
In Maths, alongside sharpening our times tables, we’ve been exploring the perimeter of shapes and tackling story‑based problems. The children have approached each task with admirable determination and are already showing growing confidence in their reasoning skills.
Our English lessons have been alive with creativity as we delved into The Dam by David Almond. The children have been crafting vivid descriptions from the perspectives of both villagers and builders, thinking deeply about feelings, motives and viewpoints. Hot‑seating has been a particular highlight – every child stepped into the interview chair with gusto, while the rest of the class took notes at impressive speed, ready to transform their ideas into a news report. We can’t wait to see the final pieces.
PE has kept us moving. Our budding gymnasts have been experimenting with inventive ways to twist, stretch and balance their bodies to create different types of bridges. Under the watchful eye of Mr Byrnes, they enjoyed exploring a range of apparatus, and later in the day they switched gears completely to make music with Mrs Flatt – producing some truly impressive tunes.
In History, we continued our journey into the past by learning about the Anglo‑Saxons: who they were, how they lived and the lasting impact they had on Britain. Meanwhile, in RE, after reflecting on the miracles of Jesus, we’ve begun exploring the theme of forgiveness and how it shapes communities.
To round off the week, we celebrated Number Day in style. The children arrived in a fantastic array of numbered outfits – some even designed their own number‑themed T‑shirts and proudly showed them off. A special maths assembly and a lively few rounds of Beetle Drive added to the fun, making it a memorable end to the week.
We’re excited to see what next week brings!
